When Dexter checked his voicemail we clearly hear Rita telling him that she had forgotten her ID. So for all you "Dexter fans" this also means that Rita's flight was not delayed either.   • guest1030 : correction: Rita was killed because she came back to get her cellphone. The Trinity killer killed her in the same way he did the 1st victims of his three stage crimes that he had been doing for 30 years. This may be an issue when the show starts becasue they will figure out that she was the only victim. he died after this at the hands of dexter and therefore, couldn't commit the other 2 murders. This will be suspicious.

Michael C Hall attended at the launch of the Dexter Season 5 trailer at Comic Con.

First, he talked about season four’s finale for a little bit. He said it was a little bit more of a phenomena than he thought it would be,and it was a little emotional for him. Then they got into the season 5 spoilers. Michael said that they’re gonna have to clean up the mess that has been made,and season 5 will pick up right where season 4 left off. Dexter will have a lot to deal with from the fallout of Rita’s death,the fact that Trinity is dead,and the Kyle Butler character that he allowed himself to portray.

He said the Kyle Butler character thing might get revealed. Dexter will also get faced with undeniable internal conflicts and strain from this whole thing. He revealed that there won’t be a new big baddie in season 5,but there will be a lot of different baddies. Dexter will get into an intimate relationship with guest star Julia Stiles’ character. The Debra Morgan character will still be there to support Dexter,but is still weary of things she doesn’t know about him.
